Gears of War Review

Gears of War is a thrid person shooter from Epic games and runs on the Unreal 3 engine producing excellent graphics. The game takes place on an Earth like planet known as Serra, where the locusts have surfaced from underneath the ground and have pushed humanity to the brink of extinction. Players take on the role of Marcus Fenix, a member of Gears, as he leads a squad against this locust horde in a final battle to save humanity.
Gears of War has a very deep storyline that will keep players absorbed from start to end. The game is about how a squad of four takes on a formidable enemy and how these four men put their lives in danger to save humanity. Players are kept up to date with the story by cut scenes at the right moments of the game, that carry the storyline forward.
The team at Epic games have been very creative and have come up with new ways on how thrid person shooters should be played. Lots of new ideas can be spotted in the gameplay of Gears. While playing the game players can take cover behind walls or objects, therefore protecting themselves against enemy fire. Players are also provided with a weapon known as the lancer, a gun with a chainsaw attatched to it….awesome!. Using the chainsaw on the locusts never gets old.

The healing system in Gears of War is also a new and innovative idea. As the player looses health a red Gears symbol starts to appear on his screen, telling him that his health is being damaged. Once the symbol appears the player must find cover and stay out of enemy fire for him to be able to regain his health. Basically in this game the health regenerates itself when the player is out of enemy fire.
All of the above mentioned facts come together to form an unforgettable experience that cannot be obtained form playing any other current game. This game is a must for everyone, it’s one of those games that a gamer just has to play before he dies.
